Bridge Pier Scour Protection Detailed Inspection
In this assignment, BM was tasked with carrying out a detailed inspection of the scour protection zones around the four piers of the world’s longest cable-stayed bridges.
The survey was supported by a vessel implementing BM’s self-developed Dynamic Positioning System to overcome the extremely high currents in the survey area. An advanced ROV system, incorporating UHD (4K) cameras and multibeam imaging sonar (MBIS), was utilized to deliver detailed scour survey data correctly referenced in the local coordinate system, with the aid of advanced navigation and positional sensors (DVL & USBL) integrated on the ROV.
A laser scaler embedded on the ROV camera head was employed to facilitate precise measurements of selected findings.
The survey was conducted under very high currents, low visibility, and turbid waters, and the quality and reliability of the results fully complied with the bridge operator’s rigorous performance and safety standards.
